Rank is based on Fame and affects the number of Castles, Heroes and Mines that can be acquired. It also increases the maximum AP and AP regeneration.

Completing buildings, researching skills, and recruiting troops will reward an amount of fame equal to 1% (rounded down) of the total cost converted to Gold.

To work out the fame you get per unit the formula is: [(Lumber + Ore) * 5 + (Sulfur + Crystal) * 10 + Gold)] * 0.01.
